How to get the job
Alright kids, listen up.
Since I’ve been in college I haven’t been worrying about getting a job or anything like that…Until this week. I need to start putting back money, and gaining experience. Since I am currently living off my loans I can’t set money back to pay for possible emergency’s and fun big ticket items. So I am on a mission to get a job, or an internship. But why go through this alone, I’m going to teach you how to get a job/internship too. <3
Here are my basics on how to get the job/internship.
I know that resumes are really intimidating and a terrible, tedious, hard, boring, for-a-grade-in-my-junior-English-class, thing to do, but I promise, its much better than what ever your English teacher in high school made you believe and makes a difference. I know from personal experience. My first job fair I visited a local newscast and they where not interested at all, I gave them my resume and they where impressed with my yearbook editor position (YES, finally paying off) and offered to show me around the station if I filled out an application. A resume for any job (especially if you are a high school student) puts you above or equal to your competition, Even if it’s just a waiting/serving/restaurant job. Here are some good templates I used for mine.

- Professional looking suit/business casual attire
Your future employer doesn’t care how cute you look in your new miss me jeans and your pretty top. They want to see you in khaki’s/slack’s with a modest blouse and maybe a blazer if your feeling a little fun.
UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START. Contrary to popular belief having connections is not cheating, or taking the “easy way”. no one gets anywhere quick without pulling a few strings.
- A smile and a friendly attitude.
I know that seems like a given, but if you and your bff just got in a fight because she kissed Johnny at the party, it could ruin not only your day but your opportunity to get the perfect minimum wage job, unpaid internship, or even dream job.
Now, These are the techniquies I am using and this is my disclaimer,
RESULTS MAY VARY!!!
I’ve been using these things and so far I have gotten a connection to a possible marketing internship at the American Bank Center (Where famous people have concerts) and I had an interview today with Omni Hotels and resorts who will be calling me back in a week about another interview. :) SO, Good luck to all, and happy job hunting!
Semester 2
So thus ends the first week of my second semester in college and I must say, my classes are interesting!
My seminar class is great of course I have Dr. Calley again for seminar and I love it.
My Psych class is already the funniest class I have and i’m stoked that Mr. Hartlaub is so cool.
English is going to be my heaviest workload but I think it will have the most payout, even though I didn’t get Mrs. Deezy again Mrs. Montalvo seems pretty legit.
My Economics class will be my other difficult class but I think I’ll do fine in there as well. Mr. lee is a cute old man. lol.
now, my philosophy class….if you’ve never seen the love guru I suggest you do to fully understand what my teacher reminds me of.
Today I also decided that I won’t be running for Treasurer in the fencing club, I enjoy fencing so much that I can’t let the politics get in the way and that is what will happen. I will be looking for a job at one of the hotels (hopefully Marriott) and possibly rushing a sorority. As of right now I have talked to Delta Delta Delta and the girls seem super nice so we will see where it goes. :)
Winter break
Alright you guys over the break I found out a lot of things in life. Some of this hasn’t been said in a public form yet so it may come as a surprise to those who care to read.
1) Sometimes you study about 12 hours the week before a final and still only make a 76.
2) Sometimes you still come out with a 3.400 :)
3) Sometimes the pointless looking classes do transfer.
4) Friendships change when you go to college, and in my experience not in a good way.
5) Sometimes you cant afford to be the drunk girl at a party.
6) Sometimes you cant afford to have the drunkest boyfriend at the party either
7) It is ALWAYS better to be SAFE than SORRY. This goes for anything…
8) Sometimes living well is actually the best revenge.
9) When I go home I’m the same girl from high school, and it pisses me off. But one day when I’m offering you a deal at my bed and breakfast for your daughter to be married at because she pregnant I’ll be able to laugh a little.
10) you don’t have to be good at grammar and spelling to be a good writer, contrary to popular entrance tests. (TAKS, STAR, THEA, SAT)
Finding out I had a 76 on the test bummed me out, I thought for sure I would only have a 3.00. and while I’m still a little bummed that I have a 3.400 I can see that I haven’t been on the AB honor roll since 3rd or 4th grade. I loved being on honor roll. and I think having all A’s and B’s is a pretty big deal. :) It’s definitely the first step to getting a 4.00 and moving on over to U of H not to mention grants and scholarships. :)
